Damage from punching the head ?

my form of self injury tends to be punches to the head. usually to the sides of my head above the ears and in back of the head. sometimes even in the temple area.

usually these punches leave my head slightly swollen in the areas that have been hit and it stays sore (especially when i move my jaw) for a few days.

i was just wondering what kind of damage this can cause to my brain? maybe this will get me to stop hitting myself in the future.
