Could this lateness just be hormonal ?

User Profile
I know that I need to buy a pregnancy test BUT..... I am 37 years old. I normally have regular periods. My partner and I had spontaneous, unprotected sex on Day 23 of my cycle. He did not "complete the act " inside. wink wink. Now my period is 5 days late. Very occasionally my periods run within a week late. I'm freaking out a little. What are the chances that I could be pregnant? Could this lateness just be a hormonal imbalance due to my advanced age? I just turned 37 almost 2 weeks ago.

Am I Pregnant Answer A24895
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Sometimes periods can be delayed and a variation of 5-10 days in your menstrual cycle is considered to be normal. If you suspect to be pregnant, or if you do not get your periods within 10 days of expected period dates, you should consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist for further examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). If pregnancy gets ruled out, further tests should be done to look for underlying cause for your delayed periods and rule out chances of onset of perimenopause.
Take care.
