could my pancreas quit functioning normally ?

User Profile
I am a 41 yr old, thin, 95 lbs female. At age 19 had car wreck/ distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy. My A1C came back 5.7 pre diabetes. My question is how likely after 22 years could my pancreas quit functioning normally and I become diabetic. Would it be type 1 or type 2? I also have neuropathy in my feet. Any info would be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern.

Its most likely not related to trauma as beta cells that produce insulin are a very small portion of the pancreas. Diabetes etiology is multifactorial. Adult onset is T 2 diabetes . get fasting levels thrice over a month , if over 126, its diabetes t 2.

wishing you best of health
