Hi Guys,

I am a 4th year Industrial Design and technology student at Loughborough University.

I am currently looking into post birth care of mothers and infants in emerging economies, an area which has caught my attention is infections caused by umbilical cords. Does anyone know what current methods are employed to cut and clamp cords in environments where access to mainstream care is not available?

Furthermore if anyone knows of specific issues faced by newborns and mothers where medical care isn't available then i would be grateful for any leads

Many thanks,

Sam
