Confusing Bipolar With Depression

I find it concerning how bipolar patients are diagnosed with just depression. Don't they get different treatments? And could a mere urine test really differentiate the two?

Hello ccas1220

It's fairly difficult to diagnose bipolar and depression sometimes their symptoms overlap. Sometimes bipolar comorbid with depression. For the treatments, there are some medications that are the same for both while counseling will work for both. The clinician will know which medication to prescribe or which counseling technique to use.

More the urine test, I actually encountered a research recently that may justify this. Apparently they used bio-markers. Although I'm not yet sure whether this kind of diagnosis method is approved by the APA or any other agencies.
