confused whether the IUI has failed or is pain side effect?

User Profile
My wife underwent IUI on the 25th May 2013. Our gaynac suggested Susten VT 200 for 15 days. But since a couple of days she is experiencing abdominal pain similarly when she is about to get her periods. We are confused whether the IUI has failed or is it side effect of the tablets.

Welcome to ehealthforum,
The tablets prescribed are to help her maintain high levels of progesterone hormone to help with implantation and smooth continuation of pregnancy. The abdominal cramps could be indicative of probable implantation (implantation usually occurs within 6-12 days after fruitful intercourse/IUI). If symptoms are persistent, she should consider taking HCG injection to help with smooth continuation of pregnancy. Uterine relaxants might also be required to control the uterine activity that is resulting in abdominal cramps (which if severe can lead to miscarriage). If worried, consider taking serial HCG test. If the levels show doubling up of the hormone levels in 48-72 hours, it will confirm that pregnancy is going on smoothly. If levels are not adequate, then external hormonal supplements would be considered to be started to help her in preventing miscarriage. She should be in regular monitoring and follow-up with her doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
