Question I am a 37 year old woman, I've had two miscarriages and have an eleven year old son. My period has been irregular after my miscarriage in February 08. Today I had an pap, my doctor said that it is not normally seen in a woman my age, however my cervix was closed like an old woman...She did not explain what it meant. She had to use a different tool to collect cells from my cervix. Does anyone know what a "closed cervix" means?

Hey there,

The condition is called cervical stenosis and it seems to occur due to decreased levels of hormones during menopause. It was also found to appear after women had procedureslike LEEP or cryotherapy after genital warts removal.
If no abnormalities were foundin you pap smear, there gynecologist prefer not to do any dilation of the cervix.
However, if you have developed this condition after LEEP or cryo and would want to get pregnant, then you are most likely to have dilation done, so that sperm could “Swim” into the uterus to meet the egg.

Hope this helps... it's all I really know about it.

PM me anytime,

Cheryl x

CERVIAL STENOSIS
I was afflicted with cervical stenosis...after 10 years and countless trips to the ER during my monthly I was finally granted a hysterectomy to correct. If any of my previous Gyno/OB Doctors could have listened to my plight and study my history. They would have known this and I may have had the chance to bare other children. Unfortunately, doctors DO NOT KNOW or care to know everything. just textbook crap. today's insurance and doctors need to come back down to earth and offer better care and treatment on womens diseases! I blame them for my pain and suffering for the past ten years! ps. My new doctor is a woman and she understood and diagnosed it immediately while I was away on a trade show trip in CA which ended up in the ER for the last time!
Wake up MALE DOCTORS AND LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS. YES WE ALL COMPLAIN OF PAIN..BUT IT'S TIME TO LISTEN ATTENTIVELY & TREAT YOUR FEMALES CORRECTLY!!
