Clinical depression with adhd and pdd

User Profile
I'm really sad for no apparent reason. I am diagnosed with clinical depression, and am currently on 20mg of prozac for it. I'm 16 years old.I have forgotten to take my medicine for a few days, but I have started again.
How can I cheer up when I get like this?

Hi, welcome to the ehealth forum and I am glad to help you.

You have a concern about clinical depression. You have also made a mention of comorbidities-ADHD and PDD.

For a patient with depression, adherence to the antidepressant medications is the mainstay of therapy. 40% of primary care patients with depression drop out of treatment and discontinue medication if symptomatic improvement is not seen within a month unless additional support is provided in the form of psychotherapy. For you, compliance to medication is important for which you can increase intensity and frequency of visits, read supplemental educational materials and discuss any side effects of the medication that you may be experiencing with your psychiatrist. Appropriate therapy for comorbidities like ADHD and PDD can help in keeping you cheerful and your depression in remission. With strong family history of depression in your case, combined intensive treatment becomes all the more important.

You can use deep breathing exercises, remember all the positive events in your life as if you are daydreaming as the stress busters to cheer yourself up. Keep at hand a book of jokes or a gratifying comic strip cartoon. When you experience blueness, imbed yourself in the spirit and go for a stomach-aching absolute laugh.
Hope this helps. Take care.
