Clicking thumbs, I had no idea this was so common

I had no idea this was so common after carpal tunnel surgery until my thumbs started doing this and I went on the web to search why this was happening. They both are very painful at night and the left one only clicks right after I get up for a little while but the right one has never stopped. This has been going on for two weeks.
