Help! I have this too!
Thank god I found this forum. I thought I was going insane! My symptoms started with a mild sore throat Monday night which I thought would just end in a cold. Tuesday woke up with severe pain, headache, sinus pressure, sore and swollen lymph nodes. The pain gets extremely worse at night. It's not even 5am now saturday morning, but I've been up since 3:30 with severe pain in my throat. I can't really talk above a hoarse whisper, I can't eat solid food, and spend my day trying to avoid swallowing. The pain is intensely acute at night. I went to urgent care Wednesday and tested negative for strep on rapid test and throat culture, but the doc started me on amoxicillin. I tried not to take it until the throat culture results, but pain got so bad that I caved. Amoxicillin did nothing. Today went to an ENT who said everything looked fine and he even shoved a long tube through my nasal passage to examine my throat (that's always fun!) and again he said everything looked fine. What??? How is everything fine? This is NOT normal. I've tried gargling, chloriseptic lozenges, hot liquids, etc but NOTHING helps. I don't think I can last much longer. I've got 2 kids, too, under 4 and may be pregnant now, so my options are limited to what medication I can take. It's sad, but I'm hoping I'm not pregnant this month so I can try other drug options. I am sad to read this lasts for so long with other people because it hasn't been a full week for me and I'm pretty much toast. Will try another ENT tomorrow and hold out hope for a diagnosis.

5 months ago, I choked on a vitamin. Now 5 very looong months later, I've been experiencing all those symptoms that everyone has described. It's been a long nightmare. I had one laryngoscope done and two endoscopys done. After laryngoscope ENT said it was sinus and allergies causing all this. After Endoscopy with gastro doctor; Findings: hiatal hernia, reflux, throat ulcer, and esophageal stenosis. Gastro doctor dilated my throat and put me on omeparazole 40mg. For a week life was starting to feel normal again and then everything came back Sad Now the last endoscopy I had; these are the findings: All ulcers gone, hiatal hernia is small, reflux is little, and stenosis was little. Soooo what the freak is it??? Why do I still feel like this?? I'm on second week of allergy testing now. Taking omeparazole 20mg night and day... The omeparazole is definitely helping to sustain my symptoms, but they are still very much there. My thing is I'm 23 years old.. Never had these problems until I choked on that Zinc Vitamin.... I'm out of ideas now. I don't know what to do at this point. Only thing I can think of is trying a different doctor.

BE CAUTIOUS ABOUT DENTURE CLEANSING TABS etc.
Possible Solution: For 3 months, I had a very painful recurring sore throat that would switch sides and to me felt like strep throat, but my doctor could see nothing that indicated strep throat. I happened to be wearing a mouth gaurd which I was soaking nightly in denture cleanser tabs. One day I happened to notice the very small warning on the side of the box about "persulfates" a known allergen. There are some very serious side effects to this substance and although you can soak your mouthpieces in them, they should NOT be ingested! Go figure. I was actually sticking my mouth guard directly in my mouth without thoroughly rinsing sometimes. One of the problems they can cause is tissue damage and ulcers in the esophagus. I believe I had some ulcers in my throat which would flare up and subside periodically. I discontinued use of the mouthguard and the solution and magically the symptoms disappeared. LONG STORY SHORT: IF WEARING DENTURES OR A MOUTH GUARD YOUR DENTURE CLEANSER COULD BE CAUSING DAMAGE TO YOUR MOUTH AND THROAT.

Same Symptoms
I'm adding to the long list of people posting symptoms Sad Sorry I dont have a diagnosis. Mine started with a cold about 2 months ago. Most of the symptoms subsided, but then I started getting this extremely painful tighness in my throat and upper chest area. It felt like someone was squeezing my lower throat, right where the adams apple is! I initially panicked and thought pneumonia or even angina. My GP did a cursory exam (she's not the most thorough doctor) and an EKG, found nothing. She prescribed me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. It got worse and worse, the GP told me it was maybe stress, maybe acid reflux, maybe infection, maybe TMJ. 10 medications later, nothing has helped! I now have a sore throat that gets worse late in the day. It almost feels like strep, a deep scratchy painful feeling in the middle of my throat. The back of my throat is a little red, but not bad. I have a little ear pain and a constant need to clear my throat, it feels congested but only when the throat pain is really bad. It comes and goes, I have good days and bad. Today is a bad day. I am in so much pain and am so frustrated that I cant figure out what this is. My husband thinks I'm crazy and that I'm just over-stressed (I also have 2 kids under 4!! Seems to be a common thread with some of us Smile And I have crappy insurance, so I dont have the luxury of visiting multiple doctors and specialists. I have to figure this out on my own because my GP is no help. These symptoms happened so suddenly, and I am no more stressed now than I was 2 years ago (actually, I'm less stressed now! What gives??) I had a ruptured extopic pregnancy 3 months ago and had surgery. I had no risk factors for it, it was just a fluke. So with this, my mind goes totally overboard with possibilities. I'm only 28, but what if I have throat cancer? Ugh! Have to find a solution!

You need to take hydrochloric acid ( not antacids) with your meals and clean up your diet completely especially sugar and cut coffee and include himalayan pink salt in your diet. You need to build up the good flora in your stomach by having acidophilous and making your own kefir (if you are lactose intolerant use coconut milk) this works really well and take coconut oil too it is fantastic for the gut. Also try a colonic for a fresh start..I have had this problem for ten years and have spent so much money and have had a really hard time but now I am getting better..I was never an unhealthy eater but I used to drink alcohol a fair bit I now follow the paleo diet and I think this has also helped.

COD LIVER OIL
It worked for me!

I have had similar issues to many of you. Since December of 2011 I have relapsed five times into what I thought was strep but after ten days of antibiotics I felt like I was swallowing a marble every time I swallowed. This went on for a week while the pain was increasing little by little until my glads swelled and my ears were hurting particularly when I would swallow. Finally, I ended up in the ER one night because the pain was so great I could no longer bear to swallow due to the little man with a knife stabbing me in the throat every time I tried. CAT scan and blood results all came back normal. They gave me a steroid to bring down the swelling. The following day I felt pretty good and thought all was well. The day after that, the pain started all over again. A friend told me to take one tablespoon of cod liver oil three times a day for several days (you will need to chase it with o.j. or something). It took only one day to get better and even better the next. This remedy felt like a miracle to me. It has been a week and I have a little pain today because I skipped a couple of days.

The cod liver oil boosts your upper resperatory immune system. Believe me I have dealt with throat issues most of my life. I was skeptical on such a simple remedy after what I had been through. Please give it a try.

A few days ago, I realized the inside of my mouth was hurting. At first it felt like an odd pressure, almost like I had cut myself inside my mouth. Feeling around with my tongue, I did find two area that seemed to be very small chunks missing in the gum, but pushing on them or around them did not cause any pain. A few hours after this occurred, it started hurting when I swallowed. The odd thing about it though is that my whole throat didn't hurt (technically it wasn't even my throat). The far back roof of my mouth on my right side would hurt every time I swallowed or yawned, but not to chew, move my mouth around, or talk.

The next day, it seemed better during the day. I definitely was not in as much pain. However, at night, it came back, and it was worse this time. An area above the back of molar hurt to put pressure on, and every time I swallowed. This eventually started hurting so bad the pain traveled to my ear, and then up to my temple and gave me a slight headache. Later that night it randomly appeared in the bottom right of my throat. There's a completely distinguishable "pain-free" zone between the two sore spots now. The spots hurt BAD though. Bad enough to wake me up constantly. The one on the lower right side definitely hurts worse, and it's definitely more in my throat than in my mouth like the first one.

I saw a doctor today, and he said almost nothing helpful. They did a strep test which came back negative, and he said I should probably wait it out. He looked in my throat and didn't comment, so I'm assuming he didn't see anything remarkable. When I look myself, I can't really see anything but a slight reddening of where it hurts. The only other thing I can think to add is that starting last night, there's a weird texture to the areas that hurt...almost more "slimy" than the rest of my mouth. It feels very odd, and the swallowing pain is bordering on unbearable.

Sore Throat
Hi there. I have a sore throat all the time, it comes and goes daily. I also have pain behind my ears, sometimes trouble swallowing. I always think I am coming down with something but nothing ever develops. I had an MRI done last week because of neck pain and low and behold they found that I have a thyroglossal cyst on the back of my tongue and that my Lymph nodes in my neck are swallon. They are sending me to an ENT and said that it could be serious. I will update after I see the ENT. You might want to contact your primary Doctor and have them schedule and MRI. Better to be safe than sorry.

I was thinking, since it has happened before and then went away, only to come back 2 years later, that maybe its allergy related.

Of course, i have the usually people telling me its all in my mind, etc. i dont know. Maybe it is. Not sure. Just wanted you guys to know that youre not alone. Ive been to the doctor so many times, that im embarrassed to go back. Not sure what to do

I had Chronic sore throat for a year/ w earaches and headaches
I had Chronic Sore Throat with headaches, but no heartburn for one year. Please do yourself a favor and get over the counter Prilosec. It's a small cost and it will eliminate Gerd from your suspects. If it is not Gerd you will notice no difference, but if it is you will be sooo much better before the next day ends. javascript:emoticon('nurse')javascript:emoticon ('sunny')
