childbirth and panic attacks/extreme fear

Hi I'm due to give birth in approx 2.5 weeks time and I'm terribly nervous - not about the pain necessarily as I've had two children already - first one i felt nothing as I had an epidural, the second however, very painful, he came flying out within an hour and I went into shock after it. Felt really unwell and thought I'd die in fact. They had to take the baby from me and I swore I'd never have another baby. Here I am again but this time, 2 years on, I'm getting diarrhoea and sick stomach even entering the hospital let alone the delivery ward. I suffer from panic attacks anyway, and worry incessantly about having high blood pressure when they take it to the point that I palpitate as it's being taken. I have had tests and all appears to be ok but I'm extremely worried now that this time I'll be too tired to push and will get another panic attack after birth...It's making me very upset and preoccupies my mind 24/7 - irrationally...I need help - any thoughts or advice? Baby is well engaged and I feel fine but just seriously nervous. Many thanks, S

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
You should consider discussing your fears with your treating gynecologist/obstetrician and go ahead with getting a referral for counseling. It will help to ease out your fears and help you to cope up when you land up in hospital with labor pains. You can also consider getting ‘home birth’ or ‘water birth’ done if your gynecologist permits it, as will help to allay your fears to have delivery at home in your familiar surroundings and your family around you. All the best.
Take care.
