can one have multiple hernias within a week?

User Profile
I am an extremely overweight 37 year old female (5'6", 280lb). I recently quit smoking, started eating a more balanced, clean diet and began a regular exercise routine. A year ago, I strained a muscle doing something and I felt a small lump form a few inches below my rib cage in the upper abdominal region. I wrote it off because I didn't have medical insurance and it didn't really bother me physically. My lifestyle change started a month ago, and it seems similar lumps have began to form in different parts of my abdomen within the last week. They are painful when I stretch or strain. They feel like they are inside the fat layer, not necessarily a hernia. That may be wishful thinking though, BUT I am not sure if one can have multiple hernias within a week. I have noticed 3 new lumps in the tissue, some I can with my fingers externally, some are deeper and I can only feel when that that muscle area is strained. Medical emergency or fibroids due to health changes?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
It is difficult to comment on the exact cause for the multiple painful lumps that you describe without examining them. These could be muscle knots, lipomas, etc, and will need through examination to determine other characteristics to arrive at the right diagnosis. If worried, you should consider getting these examined by your doctor/dermatologist and get started on treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and evaluation results) to help you resolve the symptoms. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/dermatologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
