Breathlessness suddenly started

Just after Christmas I started doing some homework and I suddenly started struggling to breathe. At first it wasn't so bad but then the next day it got terrible. I've had this for around 3 months now and during one period it calmed down.

I had a chest x ray about 4 weeks ago and to the radiographer said it looks normal and I have heard nothing from my doctors since.

Does anyone have a clue what it wrong? I was pretty healthy before all of this.

It is most likely hyperventilation due to anxiety / panic attack. If ekg and chest x Ray are normal then behavioural cognitive therapy along with anxiolytics can be advised in consultation with your doctor to look for possible improvement.
