breast cancer 5 yrs ago, shows indications in her lungs....

User Profile
My sister had breast cancer 5 years ago, and only did 3 chemotherapy treatments, she has had a cough that has gotten progressively worse for the last 18 months and now her lungs are filling up with fluid so often that they have put drains in. Pt scan shows indications for cancer in her lungs, pleura, spine, left hip and femur.

doctor said the good news is that she has the non-aggressive form of cancer. And will be removing her ovaries in the next few weeks.

Doctors are waiting forever to tell us what to expect. Since her husband passed 2 years ago, we will be taking her 3 young children. We need to prepare.. Everything I read tells me 6 months to a year. How long does she have? My sister is behaving like she has 15 years.

Welcome to ehealthforum,
The life expectation and prognosis would depend on the type of cancer and it stage. If there has been distant metastasis of cancer, the life expectancy comes down drastically. You should consider taking second opinion from Oncologist and proceed with further management as instructed. Regular follow-up and monitoring are important to look at the progression of the cancer. Depending on the type of cancer, repeat chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be considered.
Take care.
