My doctor recently prescribed Microgestin FE (a generic version of Loestrin Fe). I've never been on birth control before, and have heard a lot about negative side effects associated with them. My chief concern is that I have a mitral valve prolapse and don't know if the birth control might aggravate that, what with the blood clotting issues and things sometimes associated with contraceptive pills. Also, I smoke, and I know this is a concern for people on birth control (though I am under 35). Does anyone have any experience with birth control (specifically the Microgestin FE) and mitral valve prolapse or smoking? Thanks!

I am on BC with Yasmin and have some weird side effects. No matter, I am sure that your Dr. knows about your condition before prescribing the pill. However, if you are concerned maybe get a second opinion or switch to a form of BC that doesnt use hormones so you wont have to worry.- IUD.
