I have BDD and I hate the way I look in photos. I can't stand it. I can't understand how people can tell me that i'm good looking. My sister's friends all think I'm good looking. I have been told by a lot of people that I'm handsome. I just don't understand it. I think I look so ugly in photos. Like absolutely hideous.
can someone pelease help me?

Thanks for your question. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a complex and serious psychological condition. I am sure you have read a fair bit about the disorder on the Internet. You will see there is a close relationship between BDD and depression; also with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The OCD part of a diagnosis is related to anxiety. There is also a small amount of research which suggests that people with BDD 'see' themselves differently because of differences in cognitive perception. As well. people typically have concerns about a specific part of their body. In your case, it appears to be your overall appearance on photos. What about on videos? The same? are there any variations to how you feel about your appearance?

All of this is interesting but superficial. The best treatments are Cognitive Behavior Therapy with medication. I suspect that your family are so worried about you that they over-compensate on your appearance. If you see yourself as ugly then you need a professional to reconstruct your thinking. And it is very important that you seek out the assistance of an experienced psychotherapist to work through your perceptions and feelings.

Best wishes
