It depends upon where the arthritis is located. If it is in the facet joints, in the posterior elements of the vertebrae, it may be possible. Using radio frequency ablation (RFA), the tiny nerves that supply the facet joint capsules can be destroyed. Some people get great relief from the procedure, while others get none. This will not help other sources of pain about the spine. It is also temporary. The nerves will eventually grow back, though some patients can get months to years of relief.

You should speak with your spine surgeon or pain management specialist about your options.
