Are these prescriptions necessary?

User Profile
Visited a doctor today after experiencing start of a period after 2 and a half years. She said it is abnormal and prescribed the drugs Dalacin, Ponstan and Daflon to be taken for a week until an ultra-sound is done in a week. I'm 48 years old. Are these prescriptions necessary since it looks like a normal period and I've had the usual symptoms that precede menstruation. Also, I was diagnosed as having a bi-carnate uterus during delivery of my first born child. Please help. Worried and confused.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Getting periods again after cessation of menses for 2 years is not normal. It is called as dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) and there can be many causes for this. Go ahead with the prescription as advised and with further investigations along with ultrasound scan (hormonal work-up, blood work etc.) to determine the exact cause for the abnormal periods. Treatment might need modifications based on your investigation results.
Take care.
