anxious thoughts or do I need to worry?

User Profile
I know that I am an anxiety sufferer. Lately though, I have has this intense fear that I am schizophrenic. Spurred by the thought - what happens if everything I think is real is not actually real and the people that I think are in my life are not actually real. How do I know one way or the other?!
Please help me. Is it just anxious thoughts or do I need to worry about schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia Answer A24582
Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out. What you are having is anxiety or stress and not schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is also called split personality and in this there are abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. Schizophrenia may also cause these symptoms but in your case it looks like stress induced.

You need an urgent medical management for these symptoms for which you have to consult a psychiatrist. You need to take some antianxiety medications like short reuptake serotonin inhibitors (SSRI) and benzodiazepines.Psychotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy is of equal importance as medications and you should hold these sessions with a good psychiatrist/ psychologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
