Anxiety and Stress Question

As of late, I've been close to finishing one of my semesters at the university I attend. For the past couple years, I've been pulling on my hair in different regions of my body including facial hair, rarely head hair, armpit hair, chest hair (as I'm a 23 yr. old male), pubic hair, leg hair, etc.

I don't know why I am pulling on my hair but it happens when I am stressed out and especially before I get in the shower is when I pull on my hair the most.

The pulling times seem to be when I am feeling the most stressed or tired for whatever reason(s). Am I the only one that really does that or is there some kind of reason maybe that I might do that?

My psychiatrist said I might have some kind of anxiety response to why I do that, which very well might be the reason why I pull so much. What can cause someone to pull on their hair?

I don't even realize I'm doing it sometimes and it is such a habit that I have to consciously put my hands down when I notice I start pulling my hair

I read your question and i understand your concern. In psychiatric terms it's called a borderline personality and anxiety and other stress factors play a definite role. Psychotherapy sessions and use of anxiolytics help alot.
