Is taking anti-depressants during pregnancy harmful to a fetus? Are there any studies on Lexapro and its effects on a fetus?

I don't know if there are studies on Lexapro and the fetus...but I know what HELL I went through NOT being pregnant coming off it that I wouldn't wish on ANYONE. If you know you are pregnant, I would NOT recommend taking Lexapro while pregnant. Find a different med. There are others out there that supposedly are safe (or at least safer) during pregnancy if you have to take meds for depression while pregnant (which some people do.) Good luck finding what works for you. But I HIGHLY suggest staying away from Lexapro. I was on the SMALLEST dose possible and had a HORRIBLE time coming off it!

anti depressants okay during pregnancy reply
different medication affect people differently. one person might have horrible side effects whereas another person might tolerate the medicine well. i am currently 15 wks pregnant and have been taking 50mg of zoloft which i was told that was fine. i personally feel i need a higher dose but have yet to see the perinatologist.

Dear Favery, smiliemama and MakeMeStarlit

I am a freelance journalist based in Vancouver, Canada and I''m interested in how pregnant women decide whether or not to take antidepressants while pregnant.

There is a review coming out soon that may help answer your questions and I plan to write about it and pitch it to different newspapers and magazines.

If you are interested in speaking, I would be very grateful. If so, please e-mail me at joshuadehaas at gmail dot com.

Thanks
