Am I pregnant? My period was due today

User Profile
On the 14th/15th/16th of July, my boyfriend and I were having unprotected sex. (I think this was on and around ovulation). My period was due today (29th), however it is yet to come. When I woke up today I had light bleeding - and thought nothing of it.

After the 3 days of unprotected sex I started to feel sick around 11pm every night until the 25th. I also get cramps and felt dizzy a lot. However, after the 25th, everything seemed to stop.

As a precaution I did a pregnancy test and it came back negative on the 27th July.

In February this year I was also pregnant however it was a chemical pregnancy and therefore I had an early miscarriage.

I am wondering what to do, and whether there is a chance I could still be pregnant. Any help would be appreciated.

**UPDATE** TMI follows - been to the loo, brown discharge with red blood when I wiped...

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out.

Since you had unprotected intercourse close to ovulation, chances of pregnancy are there. This spotting could be due to implantation bleeding also or the start of your periods.

Pregnancy test kits are basically qualitative kind of test which just tests presence of hCG hormone in the urine of pregnant woman because this hormone is only produced during pregnancy among women. But this pregnancy test depends upon the particular level of hCG in the blood. So sometime it may be possible that it can give you false negative results during early days of pregnancy only because of un- sufficient level of hCG to make test positive.

Most home pregnancy tests that check urine beta-HCG are sensitive to 20-25 mIU/ml of HCG. The test can be positive anywhere from about 2-3 days prior to a missed menses to 4-5 days after, but usually it should be done 7-10 days past your missed period.

Otherwise you can get a serum HCG also done which is more specific than urine pregnancy test.

I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and regards.
