Birth Control Answer A20584
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Emergency contraceptive will not be effective for your intercourse after taking it. Emergency contraceptives are for ‘emergency’ use, and not when it occurs repeatedly. If you are intending to be sexually active, you should have considered getting started on regular birth control. Repeated use of these can be harmful to your health and disrupt hormonal cycle and period pattern (due to high content of hormonal dosages in them).
The ovulation cannot be predicted accurately since the high dosage of hormones in emergency contraceptives can disrupt the normal hormonal balance and cause alteration in your ovulation time. If you do not get your periods, report immediately to your gynecologist for further management. If you have had ovulation close to the time of unprotected intercourse, chances of pregnancy cannot be ruled out (egg once released from ovary can stay alive for 6-7 days and sperms, once inside female reproductive tract can stay alive upto 3-4 days).
Take care.
