Am I in labor? I am 36 weeks and 3 days

I am 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my 3rd child. This pregnancy has been nothing like my previous 2. I have bern diagnosed with pre-eclampsia due to high blood pressure and protein in urine. I have been experiencing serverve tightness (but not necessarily very painful) tightness in my lower abdomen accompanied by moderate back pain every 10-15 minutes for the past 2 hours. I have been laying down since they started to see if the woukd stop or let up. They have not, but they also have not gotten much worse either. Am I in labor?!

Katy, this does not yet sound like a preeclampsia emergency - "Contact your doctor immediately or go to an emergency room if you have severe headaches, blurred vision, severe pain in your abdomen or severe shortness of breath."

I hope the doctor who diagnosed you has a line you can call on Saturday for the situation you describe.

They ended up stopping after another hour, but I also have servere swelling I hands and feet to the point that my fingers will sometime go numb. I also have pressure headaches that come and go. My dr is aware of all of these but unfortunately as I have to go to our local health dept, they are not available to consult after 5 on Friday until Monday morning. So, I was just worried that I had gone into labor.

I am worried about you "Sudden weight gain and swelling (edema) — particularly in your face and hands — often accompanies preeclampsia". In my opinion you should be thinking hard about an emergency room visit. Left untreated, complications from preeclampsia can be fatal.
