Any suggestions to alleviate water retention 17 months after prenancy? I exercise daily, eat well, avoid salt & am within 3 pounds of my pre-pregnant weight. I still cannot wear my ring & my fingers look like sausages.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

If you are having water retention then it could be due to severe anemia, kidney disease, liver electrolyte imbalance, polycystic ovary, low protein in the blood, and disorders of adrenal gland. Anemia is the most common cause after pregnancy.

Please consult your gynecologist regarding this as a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net. Hope this helps. Take care!
