ADHD and OCD; Possibly is Bipolar?

Hello. I've had ADHD and OCD for a long time. I've never been formally diagnosed with either, but have been treated medically for both. I've tried over 31 medicines now, and found little relief with anything I've tried. It seems medicine combos are what I tend to do the best on versus any single medicine in particular. What I'm wondering is if some of my ongoing/chronic hyperactivity and impulsivity may be some form of bipolar disorder? I don't have significant mood changes, but often get grouchy and irritable towards the end of the day pretty much every single day. I am the happiest in the morning and late afternoon, but late evening and night is when I feel the most energy and it's though I cannot shut my mind down at night to sleep well. I also tend to get the most done at night, and it's very hard for me to keep a consistent sleep schedule that is considered "health" as I always want to stay up late because I feel my mind is clearer then and my hyperactivity symptoms seem to decrease then. My OCD seems better during the day ironically, but I'm having trouble making sense of that and all this in general. What could be going on? I've also been considered to have autism testing or asperger's, but I don't feel as though I really have either of those, but that is just what I would predict. More than anything, I have this mix of ADHD and OCD that's always been very hard to explain as I sort of bounce between the two all day long, and by nighttime I'm usually in a semi-manic state or "heightened" energy state that I struggle with greatly to shut down and get to sleep with. In the morning, I feel much more lethargic and tired than my peers in the mornings and afternoons until about 4:00 P.M. exactly, and then my energy rebounds until about 11:00 P.M. or so, and even sometimes until 1:00-2:00 in the morning, and then I just crash and the cycle repeats. This just "seems" more than ADHD and OCD, so is Bipolar a possible thing I should get screened for, or should be considering to ask my doctor about?

Hello and welcome to EHF !

I went through your query and i understand your concern. With multidimensional disorders from anxiety, OCD and ADHD, treatment is multidimensional too. Multiple specialties and alot of efforts are needed. Results take longer to show up. Many factors decide like compliance , dose adjustment and non pharmacological therapies.let your psychiatrist decide what is best for you.

Take care
