To answer the question, NO, sperm do not die as soon as they hit the air. There is air in the vagina too, or in this case, Virginia.

If your friend chooses to engage in risky sexual behavior like this, she may want to protect herself not only from pregnancy but also disease with the use of condoms. Rubbing a penis against a vagina can transmit genital warts, herpes, HIV, etc.
