I had sex on the 2nd of July.I got a weird bleeding on the 4th of July which is two days after I had sex.I don’t have a regular period, so it’s hard to keep up with my cycles and all. 2 weeks after having sex, I started having abdominal swelling. I thought it was gas, because whenever I’d lay down on my stomach I’d feel better. Then pain started occurring whenever I pressed on my belly button and I after reading about all the pregnancy symptoms, this was one of them. I also have pain whenever I press on the right/left lower abdominal (Not in the same time period though) It usually shifts to the other side. I took a home pregnancy test on the 15th of July and it came out negative.. I still didn’t get my period till now, and I feel like the my lower abdominal area is swollen for some odd reason. So I took another home pregnancy test on the 9th of August and it came out negative. am I pregnant??

Am I Pregnant Answer A7688
Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth's Ask a Doctor forum.

Since you are having negative home pregnancy tests even 2-3 months later, there is hardly a chance you can be pregnant. However to confirm please go for an abdominal ultrasound. Apart from detecting pregnancy it can also detect cause of bleeding after sex such as uterine polyps, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids.

The other causes of abdominal pain and bloating, and missed period is polycstic disease of the ovary. Pelvic inflammatory disease can also be a cause for this. This can also be detected by ultrasound. There are many other causes for irregular periods such as high cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, highly stressful life, chain smoking, and dramatic changes in life style. These should also be looked into.

Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Take care!
