Would a home pregnancy test detect an abdominal pregnancy? If not, how far along could a person be without major complications...i.e. how would one now if they are pregnant on the mirena and haven't had a period since starting it?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Home pregnancy tests can only tell you that you are pregnant. They cannot tell about the site of pregnancy. Abdominal or ectopic pregnancy can turn serious anytime. Women getting pregnant with IUD in place usually land up with ectopic pregnancy. If you are having symptoms suggesting pregnancy or have suspicion that you could be pregnant, then do not delay your visit to the gynecologist/obstetrician for examination, blood beta HCG test and a pelvic ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and look for exact site of pregnancy. This will help in deciding further course of action before any complications arise.
Take care.
