a year postpartum. I have not had a period yet.

User Profile
I am almost a year postpartum. I have not had a period yet. I have taken a pregnancy test every month since six months postpartum. They have all been negative. I quit breastfeeding at 8 months postpartum. For the last two months I have had spotting of brown discharge but no actual period. No cramping or any other sign of a normal period. What could be wrong?

Menstruation Answer A43455
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
It is difficult to comment on the exact cause for the spotting/scanty period/brown discharge that you describe without going ahead with further evaluation to look for the underlying cause. The exact cause can only be made out after careful evaluation. Consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough evaluation. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and evaluation results) would be started to help you control the discharge and regulate your periods. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
