Neurological Disorders Answer A32922
Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Such a rain stick sound in ears can be due to noise pollution through out the day, ear wax, fluid, infection, or disease of the middle ear bones or ear drum, advancing age, diseases of the inner ear, damage to the nerve in the inner ear, some medicines like aspirin and sometimes aneurysm or an acoustic tumor. Other causes of seasonal allergies and sinus infections also needs to be thoroughly probed because the Eustachian tube connects the ear with the pharynx and any excess post nasal drip due to the increased mucus production by sinuses can cause thumping sounds in the ear as well.

Exactly what is causing such symptoms in your case can be confirmed only after auditory brain stem response (ABR) and a computerized test of the hearing nerves and brain pathways. I suggest you to get a detailed ENT examination.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
