a sign that a miscarriage is on it's way again?

User Profile
Hi there, I have had a missed miscarriage in November 2012, and had a positive pregnancy test on the 04/05/2013, am wondering if is there a possibility of the same thing happening again, as i have started to have menstrual like cramps and had a pinkish discharge last night when i wiped in the loo. is that a sign that a miscarriage is on it's way again? am due for a scan this coming saturday of the 11/05/2013. Please advise.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The spotting that you describe, if occurred around your expected period time, could have been decidual bleeding (few women experience period like bleeding around expected period time during early pregnancy which is also known as decidual bleeding). If the bleeding is associated with abdominal cramps, increase in back pain, presence of blood clots, etc, then you should visit your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for further evaluation. Look out for development of any other new symptoms. If pregnancy has been confirmed, and if you have had previous early pregnancy loss, you should consider getting serial HCG levels checked to see if the levels are rising adequately/doubling up within 48-72 hours confirming that pregnancy is going smoothly. If HCG levels are not adequate, then external hormonal supplements would be considered to be started to help you in preventing miscarriage. Go ahead with the scheduled ultrasound scan done to help to confirm the gestational age and pregnancy viability along with looking for source of bleeding or any retroplacental bleeding/clots, etc. Visit your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for further evaluation and assistance. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet. Look out for danger signs like increase in intensity of abdominal cramps, increasing back pain, fresh bleeding etc. Avoid bending or lifting any heavy weights and avoid heavy work. Avoid standing for long duration and avoid climbing stairs. Avoid use of caffeinated and carbonated beverages.
Take care.
