Was there a health hazard with the drug Yutopar? I was on that drug for almost nine weeks in 1990. My baby had a few health problems that surfaced around her 2nd birthday. Just curious. Thanks

Complications during Pregnancy Answer A37897
Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum. I am glad to help you out. Yutopar or ritodrine remains the only rug approved by the USFDA for treatment of preterm onset of labor. This drug is associated with some side effects like increased heart rates (palpitations) in mothers along with tremors and nervousness but these are not significant compared to the benefit that one gets from the drug. There’re certain fetal side effects too like a slight drop in the sugar levels and increased heart rates in the fetus but again these don’t carry much value as Yutopar is a lifesaving drug for the growing baby. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
