eHealth Forum’s new doctor on call
Online medical consumer reference site eHealth Forum hires real life doctor to respond to queries from global patients
Can’t get an appointment? Need a second opinion?
Today, eHealth Forum, the online health reference site, announces the appointment of Dr. Gjuzelov as the latest addition to the medical team. He will be In Residence on the forum to respond to online patents from around the world. To reach him, users register to the forums and submit medical questions to him online. The appointment means that eHealth Forum will both quadruple the amount of doctor generated content as well as increase access to a medical expert for users.
eHealth Forum was established five years ago to help preserve and improve human life by bringing health-related information to all people via the internet. The online community connects people of all national, religious and cultural backgrounds who want to reach out about their medical concerns. The site’s forums provide a place for people to express themselves and connect with others dealing with medical issues. It is a sanctuary of comfort, understanding and information.
eHealth Forum is a top 10,000 site that reaches over 875,000 users in the U.S., 125,000 user in the U.K. and 100,000 users in Canada. Typical visitors to eHealth Forum are aged 18-45 and over 70 percent are female. Men make up 30 percent of the site’s average visitors.*
“We’ve seen eHealth Forum triple its traffic in over a year and with that, we’ve noticed a dramatic increase in visitors to the ‘Ask A Doctor’ section of eHealth Forum. Some days, more than 100 people are interested in seeking our doctor’s advice. It has become apparent that more and more people are seeking medical advice online before visiting their regular doctor or they want a second opinion,” said Lewis Lurie, CEO of eHealth Forum.
- The Ask a Doctor section has solicited over 4,000 medical questions in the past two years.
- 65% of the medical questions asked are generated by women, while 35% come from men.
- With Dr. Gjuezlov on board, the quantity of expert responses will increase by 50%, with a turn-around estimated response time of only 24 hours.
- The “Ask a Doctor” section of the site is present in over 175+ categories.
- 35% of all medical questions involve sexual health and pregnancy issues.
- Other popular question categories include mental health and internal medicine.
- Common themes include paternity and conception, ovulation and menstruation and questions asking, “Am I pregnant?”
Dr. Gjuzelov will also answer questions as an expert member in specific forum categories such as heart disease, auto immune disorders and diabetes. The doctor’s online presence as a member will allow other members to communicate with him personally on the public forums or via private messages. Dr. Gjuzelov will act as a member-expert and will be accessible to all members regardless of their location or resources.
Men find the service extra useful as anonymous medical help seems preferable to face-to-face physical examinations for sensitive topics, especially regarding sexual health.
The anonymity of the service also allows for easier communication of otherwise embarrassing topics for men such as testicle symmetry, penis size, premature ejaculation, masturbation techniques and STDs.
Example questions:
I’ve got a very small penis - is this a problem?
Blood in sperm during ejaculation - serious?
Premature Ejaculation - how can I delay ejaculation?
What can cause Sharp pain during Masturbation?
Is a Retracted Testicle Normal during Sex?
Can you take birth control pills with HCG injections ?
Nikola Gjuzelov, M.D. - Medical Expert, Ask a Doctor Author
Dr. Gjuzelov has been practicing medicine in South Eastern Europe since 2004, when he received his state medical license issued by the Medical Chamber of Macedonia. His field training included a stint in the military, as well as an intensive internship as an ambulance doctor in rural and urban Macedonia. Dr. Gjuzelov practiced medicine in the ER for four years in his hometown’s Public Health Institution before joining the eHealth Forum medical team. When he is not working as a General Practitioner or with his mother (also a doctor), he enjoys increasing his theoretical and practical knowledge of medicine. He also likes to jog, fish and race go-carts.
“I accepted the position with eHealth Forum because I like challenges and I like to try new things,” stated Dr. Gjuzelov (a.k.a. Dr. Nikola). “Offering medical advice online helps people and allows me to increase my clinical experience. As technology develops I think we might see more and more people turn to online consultations and I hope to be on the edge of that movement.”
“More and more people find the unconditional support from others in our forums play a significant role in the healing process. Indeed, many of our visitors go on to become volunteers, posting responses, help and support on other people’s posts. Caring and sharing is a great healer in itself. Many of our visitors discover that others have had similar experiences which they find enormously helpful. A problem shared is a problem halved, and that’s half the battle” said Lee Weber, the Community Director at eHealth Forum.
