Hello I am a 20 year old female who has had health problems her entire life. I found out last week I have a hiatal hernia from an indoscopy. Here are symptoms I have on a daily basis... Trouble breathing, severe pain in my abdomen, heart burn, trouble sleeping, throwing up meals, diarrhea, tiredness, weakness and also frequent headaches and sore throats. I have gotten to a point where I just feel worn out with everything. I'm not overweight... And the list of foods my surgeon gave me to avoid are things that I avoid in my diet naturally for years (I suppose my body just told me over time that those foods make me feel worse)... I have tried antacids and often take tums... My surgeon says I was most likely born with this hiatal hernia and he described it as being pretty large.

My question is... Am I a good candidate for the hiatal hernia repair surgery? I am just tired of being sick. I feel too like I'm too young to have to drag myself out of bed each morning, force myself to eat, push myself to keep going in pain? Do you think this surgery could help some of these things? And if so, how should I go about talking to my surgeon about having this surgery done?

Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to respond my questions! I appreciate it! God bless!
