Q: Yolk but no baby

I went to my first prenatal visit this week and the doctor saw a yolk but no fetal pole. She stated that my hcg level was at 25,000 which is really high for it being my fift week of preganncy (my last periodwas dec. 25, 2008). She said that at that level she should be able to see something. So she sent me to the radiologist and she also saw no baby. My doctor thinks this might be an abnormal pregnancy since no baby is to be found. I am at my sixth week of pregnancy. Is it possible that my hcg level is just really high and too soon to see anything? Or will I end up miscarrying? I went in for more blood work today to determine if my level keeps rising or decreasing. I am not bleeding nor spotting and I still have the syptoms of being pregnant......

Be Careful
I had the same thing happen years ago. Dr told me I had a miscarriage and was going to do a D&C... I didn't have it done and a month later at another hospital, they told me the baby was fine and I had been so early I should not have been able to tell I was pregnant and that if I had listened to the first Dr then it would have been an abortion. So please wait at least a month and get a second opinion.

yeah you should wait a month
my sister in law had the same thing but around 12 she started bleeding she thought it she was miscarrying but it turn out that she was never pregnant it was a cyst, the doctor couldn't understand why her hormones levels were even high then it should be for a 12 weeks pregnancy ecxpecialty when it wasn't even a baby. The doctor said that it does happends not to often but he has seen some cases like my sister in law so yeah i think you shoul wait for one more month ang after the month just go get a ultrasound!!
