Q: yeast infection vs genital herpes

i have large red bumps on my vaginal area and a few that are present between my vagina and rectum. i thought it was a yeast infection because I was itchy and had a thick white (but not clumpy) discharge and a lot of itching. Now, it is both itchy and painful. I have started an over the counter yeast infection medication (cream and vaginal inserts) and the itching has begun to subside. It burns when I urinate, but this is because there is a raw bump just inside my vulva. Does the presence of the bumps mean that it is likely herpes? they do not appear to be blister like as they are not white or fluid filled. I have been in a monogamous relationship for over a year. We were both clean, but he does get cold sores. He hasn't had any recently. the bumps are sore to the touch, but as i said, quite large. Also, I have not had any flu-like symptoms as may be typical with herpes.
Thank you for your help.

tell me what you find out because I have red bumps too. they are right below and to the sides of my vagina. I am also monogamous and my partner doesn't have herpes. I'm starting Monistat now to see if it helps. I thought herpes made blisters with a white center, not red bumps.
