My doctor just called and said I had a
yeast infection. My boyfriend and I have
been having sex over the past few months
without a condom (I am on birth control),
and he even went down on me last week. We
are in a predicament as I now don't know
if he's carrying it, as well.
How do we know if our mouths are infected
now, and if they are, how can we treat the
mouth infections? I would also like to
know of any OTC treatments my boyfriend
can use until this is cleared up (I am
getting my prescription tomorrow).
Last but not least, this is going to sound
like a crazy question, but can yeast
infections get into the eyes? I might have
one in my mouth (it's possible, since I
have performed oral sex on my
boyfriend/may have kissed him after he
performed oral sex on me) and I wonder if
I have ever touched my mouth, and then
possibly my eyes -- if it could be spread?

Yeast infections can go from the oral
cavity (mouth) to the anus. They occur
within the GI tract. Yeast is naturally
occuring in the GI tract. It can become
overgrown when there has been an upset in
hormonal balance, antibiotic use, or
compromised immune system. Medications can
treat vaginal yeast infections. Probiotics
from a natural food and supplement store
can help to replace normal bacteria to the
GI tract and reduce yeast growth.
You are on bc. This is more than likely
the cause of your yeast infection. If you
and your boyfriend have normal, healthy
immune systems you should not be concerned
with transmission to the mouth. Oral yeast
infections, thrush, present with white
patches on the gums and inner cheeks. They
will not just rinse or wipe away.
Medication, nystatin, is used to treat
oral yeast infections. You can just get
probiotics and take the capsule 3x/day.
This will help greatly to keep the normal
flora in the bowel at the correct balance.
Probiotics are over the counter at any
natural food store.
