Last week I went to the doctor to get on birth control but instead my doctor checked me and told me I have a yeast infection. I looked at him crazy because I do not have any symptoms. No discharge, no itching, no smell, no irritation no nothing and he perscribed me some medicine for the yeast but i have not gone to get it yet because i dont have the money to right now. But I mean is this serious being that i dont have any symptoms??

Are you sure it is for yeast, not a bacterial infection? Yeast is very seldomly treated with prescription medicines. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics, and it is very sneaky and can hide for years and years.

What is the name of the medicine?

Well when my doctor checked me he said you have a yeast and i was like what because i've had a very bad yeast and a bacterial infection before and the symptoms showed up immediately so for me to have no symptoms thats not making any since to me. But the medicine he prescribed me is called diflucan.

Yes, Diflucan is for fungal infections (yeast is a fungus). It is a prescription drug, and the generic medication for that is called Fluconazole (it should be much cheaper, especially if you buy it from places like Walmart where it qualifies for the $4 prescription cost). It treats fungal infections all over your body (vagina, mouth, throat, esophagus, abdomen, lungs, blood, and other organs). Maybe your doctor saw an infection elsewhere?

Vaginal yeast infections can be treated with the normal over the counter things like Monistat.

Thanks so much! And as far as the infection I don't know if he saw something elsewhere, but I set up another appointment this week so hopefully I will get to the bottom of this! Thanks again!
