Q: Yaz Side Effects

So my doctor put me on Yaz and she said it was her favorite pill out there. Because she is my doctor, I decided to go with what she thought was best. Now I've been researching Yaz today and I've seen quite a few bad stories about it. Many people have complained of cramping, spotting, terrible mood swings, migraines and so on. Is this common with all pills or have you guys had similar results with Yaz? Also, I was wondering if people have experienced an increase/decrease in their sex drive or seen any breast growth while they've been on Yaz.

never ever been on birth control before...periods were irregular ALL THE TIME..which didn't bother me until I became sexually active, in which case I became paranoid every month and had no idea if it were "late" or if it just hadn't come yet...anyway...I went to the gyno, she also reccomended yaz for me...the first 2-3 months I'd say were...eh not good...the entire first month I had spotting, and for the next 2 months following I'd get random headaches and dizzy spells, sometimes get nauseated...I read the packet and saw these symptoms were supposed to subside after 2-3 packs...so..I put up with it and decided that after 3 months if things didnt change I would tell the doctor and ask to be switched..but..luckily..as the packet said, my body adjusted to the horomones and things have been fine..i love it and have no more side effects...I also read that for alot of women yaz causes missed periods...i'm not one that goes for that, i could never be on sesonale or anything..i like getting that "time of the month" just to ease my mind, anyway..i haven't skipped a period and thank god my periods are regular every month finally!
Oh yea..no noticeable change in sex drive...and possibly some breast growth but not an entire cup or anything crazy...also yaz is supposed to help with mood swings...though i haven't noticed any benefits of that, i still get somewhat moody the week before..maybe its just mental? not sure

Hi, i was on Yaz for 4 yrs. Dr. put me on it due to migraine, suppose to help with chronic back pain & migraine. I still get migraine, but chronic back pain during period ease a little. I did get my period regular which is awesome. it depends on the person. any medications is worth a try if you don't feel right dont continue. Now i been off yaz for 6 months now, my husband and i split up so i just stop completely, let just say i now suffered from severe chronic back pain before my period, & during. i'm really comfused now, i want to just start taking yaz cuz of pain, but i have to pay $25.00 per month, insurance does not cover full. I have financial hardship through the divorce and kids. Does anyone know other alternatives besides yaz. thanks.

I was on Yasmin (I think it's slightly different than Yaz, but same price) for about 6 or so months - now on Aviane about same amount of time. On both I have had mood swings like crazy during the active pills. I thought I was moody because I had just gotten married, but my husband noticed how different I was during the week I wasn't taking the pills. I originally switched pills because Yasmin was costing me twice as much. I think for some people, our bodies just don't like too much hormone. Smile Best advice I can give, is try one you can afford, see how you feel after a few months, and if you don't like it ask you doctor for an alternative pill. My doc was happy to let me try something new. Everyone's different!

I was on YAZ for a little over a year's time. The side effects from this pill were horrible! It made my PMS symptoms worse, didn't do anything to lighten my flow or help with cramping either, gave me recurring migraine headaches and nausea, and made me feel fatigued more times than not. My gynecologist was actually the one who convinced me to stick with this pill way longer than I ever should have.

And, now there's a YAZ/Yasmin lawsuit out because alot of women have suffered terrible damage to their bodies as a result of taking either drug. This pill just is definitely one that I sincerely wish my doctor had neverprescribed for me in the first place. Thankfully, I am not on it anymore.

annoyed with yaz
Ive been on yaz now for 13 months. I originally went on it becuase i was on accutane and i was sexually active so i needed to be on birth control. I have pmdd, and i usually start feeling the symptoms (emotionally unstable, insanely bloated, tired, food cravings, irritable) TWO WEEKS before my period and they occur on and off until my period comes. however, recently i have been really questioning whether or not yaz is helping me. i know its suppose to be good for your skin, but im so bloated and i have been working out and eating realllly healthy and not noticing a difference in my body becuase of all the bloat. im also sexually active and i had irregular periods off the pill. i really want to go off of it, but im worried that my skin will not look as good as it does now... i know it seems like a minor problem to some but its a big deal to me. can anyone tell me about their skin while being on yaz and then going off of it??

I do have adult acne-prone skin. At the time I started using YAZ, I was suffering with mild to moderate breakouts. YAZ's did not keep my skin relatively clear while I was on it. After going off of YAZ I was switched to Femcon FE. Only took that for a week due to severe vomitting and headaches. So, I will be going to my gynecologist to have me put on a lower dose pill (hopefully with less side effects) that will have anti-acne benefits to it as well.

I have started taking YAZ two weeks ago and my skin has not cleared at all; actually my acne has been getting worse! I think this might be normal because the hormones need to adjust in my body before i stop breaking out, but does anyone know about this?
Also, I have been a lot more hungry since I've started taking it, and I control my eating with difficulty. Surprisingly, I haven't gained weight yet but I really eat like crazy! I really have to be careful because I don't want to gain weight, but I usually cannot help it since I am so hungry all the time! Has it happened to anyone?

I have been off of yaz for only a month after taking it for 4 years. After the birth of my second child I had horrible mood swings and spotting. Yaz seemed like a miracle when I first started taking it. Mood swings went away and the spotting stopped. The only side effect I noticed was that my breast grew a lot.A few while ago, I noticed that the mood swings were back with avengence and my sex drive went from 60 to 0. I also started having longer periods and night sweats. My doctor wanted test to see if I was goin through early menopause, so I have been off.Everything is doing better after only one month off the pill. Only thing, I noticed my hair thinning in the temples and that I have almost uncontrolable cravings. Has this happened to any one else?

Yaz side effects after three months of pills
I have been on Yaz for just over three months now and have some good side effects (larger breasts, clearer skin, and lighter more regular periods), and some negative side effects (bloating, weight gain of almost 5 lbs., a couple headaches, and tender/sore breasts, plus lower libido). My breasts have definitely become less sore than the first couple months and I haven't had any headaches recently, also the weight gain seems to have stabilized and I'm less bloated than the first couple months. Overall, I am happy with this pill, mostly because of what it has done for my breast size and skin.

YAZ--is a very bad medication
I almost died from taking Yaz. I was previously healthy and nonsmoker. I was placed on Yaz--6 months later I developed clots in my legs and lungs!!!The Yaz commercials make you believe that the side effects are few and only happen to a few "unfortunate" women. Not true the drug is very dangerous. I reported it to the FDA. Many healthy women (including 20yr olds) are developing clots. Please if you are on this medication...do some research on it. Do a Google search.

How bad does it lower your libido? I took my first pill last night and I always thought that as you are no longer worried about getting pregnant, you can relax more and sex will be much more enjoyable. Am I wrong? I don't want to not be able to enjoy sex anymore just because I am on birth control

On Yaz for 5 months
I had always had normal periods and never any crazy mood swings or anything out of the ordinary. Out of nowhere about 1 1/2 years after getting married, I started developing a hormonal imbalance which was causing ovarian cysts, very greasy hair and mild, but very annoying and lingering acne as well as spotting for an entire month and not to mention occasional debilitating migraines. I went on yaz after debating for several months because I had always been against any form of birth control. I did fine with yaz, my acne cleared up, headaches went away, I actually lost a few pounds due to the diuertic effect and of course, my period was finally normal again! The one thing that did suffer was my libido. I did not want to be touched at all, which really sucks especially for a newlywed. You do think that you would be more relaxed at the thought of not getting pregnant, but it sort of defeats the purpose because I had no sex drive at all. I was on it for about 5 months and then I started developing some of the negative side effects once my hormones balanced out. I was getting extrememly moody and would cry for no good reason and headaches were coming back again (not migraines, just headaches). I figured that 5 months had been enough for my hormones to balance out again so I got off the pill and am now waiting to get my second "normal" period since being off of the pill. I did gain 3 lbs after getting off (probably because of no more diuertic) and have seen a slight increase in acne again as well as oily hair--so I think my hormones are starting to imbalance once again. So to answer your question, yes more than likely your libido is going to suffer and if "birth control" is the only reason you're on the pill and you don't have any other reason to be on it, I would say get off the pill and use other forms of protection.

Is the first month just a wild card???
This is my first month on Yaz. I was put on it to get rid of my PMS when one week of every month. The only thing that has been MEGA weird this month is that I had a little mini week long, very light period. I woke up this morning (7 days after it started) and was unpleasantly surprised to find that this stupid freaking crazy period was stronger than ever! It seems like I'm just going to get 2 periods this month...which is a total bummer. I'm glad to hear that after 3 months these things tend to go away but I've also discovered if I take a pill an hour or so late, the next night at about the time I have to take my pill, its like I'm PMSing all over again and I cry and get moody. But I set up the text messages from the website and am doing a better job remembering. Has anyone else has this crazy, freak double period?? Or one day effects after a late pill?? Thank you everyone for helping Smile

Would I recommend Yaz bcp?
I was on Yaz for like 5 years. I absolutely loved it! I had tried other pills and they had made me insane. I had crazy mood swings where I would randomly cry and then I felt like hurting people. My doctor switched me to Yaz and I felt like a normal person. my periods came right on time every month and around the same time of day. They also only lasted for like 3 days. AMAZING! My boobs did grow A LOT, but overall I would for sure recommend it. However, I have been off it since March and trying to get pregnant and no success.

Two more months since my last post and I have less possitive notes. I have had a yeast infection immediately following my last two periods and I believe Yaz has something, if not everything, to do with it. I am trying to give it another chance and will wait to see if I get another after this period If so, I will quit taking this pill. Everything I said before (short light periods, super-clear skin, larger breasts, and mild headaches, plus a little weight gain) are all still the same.
