According to the Yasmin USA site, the pill must be taken for 7 consecutive days before it is effective if it is taken at any time other than the first day of menstruation or the first Sunday after the period begins. If you begin taking it on Day one/ first Sunday after period begins, you are immediately protected. It is important that you take a pregnancy test and be sure that you are not pregnant before beginning to take the pill.
