After a bronchial type infection in March and a slew of antibiotics I developed something that can best be described as Burning Mouth Syndrome. It felt like my mouth had been burned by chemicals and I felt a stickiness on my teeth. Since then I have taken Diflucan and liquid Nystatin. It went from excess saliva to very saliva. I saw my doctor twice, went to ENT (no help at all - barely did an exam) back to my doctor again. I even went to my dentist. No one seems to know what it is or what I can do to alleviate it. Right now it feels like there's a hair ball on the back of my tongue/throat, my mouth is dry and sticky and my saliva feels thick and sticky. Nothing I have tried over the counter has helped one bit. stretch

Burning Mouth Syndrome
I to have suffered from BMS for 4 years now. This is a very debilitating syndrome. Trying to convince doctors of that is a different story though.
Most Doc's think your crazy, that's why they call it idiopathic syndrome.
I have been to all dr's. regarding this: ENT, GI, Dentist, Neuropathy,
Neurologist, Md's etc, none could find anwsers for me. Most of the information I've found has been on the internet.
For me (ALA) Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 mg. daily - 3x200mg. takes care of most of the burning sensation. I use Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste, it stops the bubbly sticky sensation in mouth. I also use spry mints and spry peppermint gum. I don't leave home without them. I sure would like to meet someone else with this thing. Sometimes I think I'm the only one with it. Anyone in Az. let me know. This is a life changing problem with no cure.

Burning Mouth Syndrome
I was glad to come across your post today. My chief complaint is not so much the burning sensation anymore but rather the thick mucous-like saliva (even gel-like) with white bits in it. It is stringy and foamy.

I know it sounds bad to describe. It is even worse to experience it though. I feel like there is hair in the back of my throat as well. I have taken both antibiotics and lots of anti-fungals - nothing changes the symptoms at all - not worse - not better - just the same. It is so taxing. I have tried different toothpastes, mouthwashes, mints, etc. Nothing takes away the misery. I can't get any doctor to even acknowledge that there is a problem. I am at the end of my rope - so is my husband - of 32 years. He thinks everything should be normal. I wish.

Burning mouth & throat
I have had this burning in my throat for 2yrs it started after I had Pancreatic surgery. It is the most annoying thing I have ever had. All I can think of is when I had my surgery some nerves got damaged. I twas a very big surgerypart of my stomach was cut and the head of my pancreas and small intestine was cut so my system has all been re-arranged. I have been on all of those meds everyone has mentioned and seen all kinds of Doc's and no one or nothing helps. I think I am going to try homeopathic remedy's. This burning just consumes your life and considration. If anyone know of any remedy's out there please share.

Just Diagnosed BMS
I got diagnosed with BMS yesterday. I have had it for 5 weeks and my ENT specialist told me the first thing i should get rid of is anything mint flavored, also to stop anything that is resting on my tongue, like hard candies, mints, gum, etc.. I changed toothpaste and use Biotene. I will see if any good results come out of it. Let you all know.

After having this for over 5 years now, I can only stress to you not to let the depression and anxiety get the best of you. Talk to your dr. they can help you. I've been to them all and only one had a clue what I was talking about. I don't take the heavy meds most drs. prescribe (gaba, clonzopan etc.)I'm a canary in the bird cage when it comes to drug sensitivity. I take 1mg. xanax at night to sleep or there would be none. During the day I use biotene toothpaste and mouthwash, spry mints and I swish with tobasco sauce about 3 or 4 times a day. I used s/f gum when this started but now I can't. I truley am convinced that this is nerve related from the 7,8,9 trimengal nerve. Terry/Az
