tacycardia symptoms caused by leukemia ? Posted: 03-12-08 17:45pm
i went to my doctor 1 month ago cause i
had shortness of breath, fatiuge,
dizzyness, etc. and he went directly to my
heart and did a billion tests just to say
"well, it seems like you have tachycardia
" which is just a fast heart rate , i
kinda already knew i had that anyway!!! he
told me that when i went on the 24 hour
heart moniter my bpm is about 160 per
minute, the avrage is about 60-90 bpm. but
anyway he just sent me home after that and
told me not to have any caffene, cough
meds, anything that could make it go
faster, but I know that i have something
else!! i mean, online it said that
tachycardia is brought on by something,
not just by itself!! i also have
experenced the odd rash the leukemia
causes and i have had other related
syntoms. And i get sick extreamly often
and easily (atleast once a month)and it
takes forever to get rid of it! for
example, i had strep throat for 1 month
lastr month and i was on antibiotics!
so basicly, my questions are:
- can a normal (simple) blood test tell if
u have leukima ?
- can leukema cause tacycardia ?
- might i have leukemia according to the
symtoms i have listed ?
*by the way my doc is not the best one, he
told my mom she had nothing wrong with her
back, when she went to a different doc
later, her said she had a slipped disk in
her back!!*

Shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness,
tachycardia are all symptoms of anemia
(lack of red blood cells).
Frequent infections can be a sign that
your immune system is not working
properly, in other words, your white blood
cells aren't functioning well.
And, about the odd rush you mentioned is
it looks like small round, pinpoint-sized
dots that are not raised, red or red-blue,
commonly appearing on the lower legs, but
sometimes also, distributed all over the
body?

Do the dots blanch when pressed upon?
If the answer is no, you surely have
petechie (bleeding from capillaries into
the skin causing red dots) and the rush of
petechie is known as purpura. There are
many conditions in which petechiae may be
seen, but, along with other symptoms you
have, I suspect that the cause of this
rush is lower number of platelets in your
blood.
Please, make a simple blood count test.
You may have leukemia.
Damage to the bone marrow, by way of
displacing the normal bone marrow cells
with higher numbers of immature white
blood cells (due to leukemia), results in
a lack of blood platelets, which are
important in the blood clotting process.
This means people with leukemia may become
bruised, bleed excessively, or develop
pinprick bleeds (petechiae); lack of red
blood cells will lead to fatigue, pale
look, shortness of breath, dizziness;and
white blood cells which are increased, but
defect give unappropriate defense from
infectious agents.
Thinking of you!
Waiting for your post!

ooh and if it helps, i have had like, a
bump in my neck for about a year or even
less that might be a lymph node, or
something, my doc told me about a year ago
that it was just a lynph node or gland
thjat was bitten by a mosquito and is now
perimently like that!! that is the dumbest
answer EVER!!! its is also recently
getting bigger and painful! i am so sorry
if i am confusing or something, bur i have
alot of symotoms which are bugging me and
interfering with my life, and my dad dosnt
know what to do because my dumb doctor
said its tachycardia and its not! (btw, he
didnt even tell me 3what kind of
tachycardia i have! cause there is 4 kinds
i think!) sould i get a different doc?
This just sucks cause im 14 and i cant
tell people because they never take me
seriously because as my dad puts it "ive
always been hard" because i had alot of
problems at birth because i was pre
mature.
just thank you so much for taking your
time for reading this and hopefully
responding and thank you to the people who
have already reasonded.

I'll suggest you to change your doctor and
take a blood count test as soon as
possible.
You, obviously, have symptoms of medical
problem and you need answers determined by
tests and examinations.
Where exactly in the neck is the swollen
lymph node located?
Is it hard on touch?

Rereading your post I found that I missed
something to ask you.
Do you remember if you got the rush after
you have taken the antibiotics for the
sore throat?
Have you been diagnosed with strep throat
after having a throat swab?
Do you feel extremely tired?

um, no i dont think i had much of a rush,
but i don't really remember.and no i did
not have a throat swab, the clinic guy
just looked at my throat. and yes
constintly i feel tired, alll the time!
like i can barly do normal everyday thigs
cause im so tired, and i get like 10 hous
or more of sleep per night. but my doc
seems 2 think that it is cause of the fast
heart. but i dissagree.
and now it seems like what ever i have is
getting much worse cause during the day at
school i'll get so light headed that i
almost faint and i feel like im
sufficating, and i will just be standing
there.

oooh by the way i ment to put "the rush",
not "a rush" in my previous post. lol.
and when my doc sent me to get blood
tests (when i explained about when i got
diagnoed with tacchycardia) he was
checking my red bood cells and siad they
where normal. could this mean that it is
not leukimia? but it was not at all as bad
then as it is now. Also, I have this
extreme feeling of pressure in my stomache
which has started about a 3 weeeks ago. My
stomach is also "pushing out" (but i try
to suck it in all of the time) I know that
it is not fat because i am very small
(about a dress size 0).
thanks

You are welcome!
I think I know what may cause your
condition.
You may have mononucleosis infection, a
very common viral disease at your age.
This disease, usually, starts with
headache, fatigue, sore throat, chills and
fever, muscle and joint pain.
Swollen lymph nodes, skin rash, soreness
in the abdomen, come as additional signs
and symptoms.
Extreme fatigue and malaise-like feeling
are the most prominent characteristics of
the disease.
A rush that develops suddenly after taking
antibiotic for a severe sore throat,
indicates suspicion for sore throat caused
by mononucleosis virus. Also, some
patients with mono develop additional sore
throat caused by Streptococcus (strep
throat).
If you are still developing rashes and
bruises, that is a result of low platelets
(one of the complications of mononucleosis
is abnormal blood cell production; the
virus can suppress the ability of the bone
marrow to make blood cells, such as
platelets and white blood cells, leading
to bleeding problems and increased
susceptibility to infection,
respectively).
The extreme feeling of pressure in your
stomach, is due to your enlarged spleen,
which is usual sign of mono (is this
pressure or discomfort felt more in the
upper left part of your abdomen?)
You have mentioned that you are
experiencing breathlessness and dizziness.
Are these symptoms accompanied with chest
pain?
These symptoms can be due to your
tachycardia (tachycardia can be a sign of
heart inflammation, complication which
appears in some mono sufferers)
Have you lost your appetite?
Are you experiencing night sweats?

pain.

autoimmune disorders much. do you think
that it is a possibility?

of mono but i havent had a sore throat for
like a month or more. is that really an
important symptom?
omg im sorry for all of the questions i
am asking u, but i have just one more:P
can tachycardia cause anything else and is
tachycardia like just on its own, or does
something cause it? u said that mono can
cause tachycardia, but can anythnig else?
like antoimmune disorders or anything that
u know of?

Sorry for delayed post! Posted: 06-03-08 04:21am
Can you visit your physician and ask for
thyroid gland hormones test?
Are you planning to visit your physician
soon?
Some of your symptoms made me think that
maybe you have problems with your thyroid
gland.
It will be nice to check your blood
glucose level, too.
Do you know the exact name of the
autoimmune disorder your cousin had?
Best wishes!
Marija
