Hi,

Do you ever assign your children lines or an essay as punishment. Do teachers at your childrens school? Its still a common punishment here in England.

If you're tying to discipline children, I think that "punishment" for infractions is LESS MOTIVATING than encouragement when kids are doing something well. This type of consequence is outdated and antiquated, in my opinion.

No, no and NO
I grew up doing that everytime I did something "bad". It only frustrated me to sit there and write and write and write. I will never do that to my kids, especially my son, who has dyslexia and slight reading/comprehension problems. It only exacerbates his issues. I do work with him on writing as exercises for his brain but I would never force him to write and write, nor would I do it to my daughter. Not when a simple redirection or time-out is just as effective and way less frustrating.
