I Have worsening GERD symptoms. I can barley go through out the day without having acid reflux or throwing up non digested food. I am almost 18 years old and I have suffered from this since the age of 8. My problem started out just chest pain after eating, but at the age of 12 new symptoms occurred. One day while eating a hot dog I got really intense pain in my chest and didnt know what was wrong. I felt I was almost chocking but I could breath. I ran to the bathroom and spent the next 3 hours throwing up a combination of undigested food and slimy foamy spit (acid). This bad symptom I call "The Bad Acid" days. (I have good and bad acid days). This symptom persisted for 4 more years but only on occasion, and the rest of the time was good acid, where food would get stuck but slowly go down with the help of burping and drinking water. In the Next year following things got worse again. My bad days became more frequent and often spend hours in the bathroom hugging my toilet. At this point drinking water no longer helped but harmed. Every time I drank water it mad the pain more intense. Every one knows acid and water dont mix, and this gave me a sensation in which I was essentially drowning and couldnt breath. Immediately I would need to throw up the water. In the past couple of months this problem is at its worse. Almost every meal is a chore. I no longer like to eat and most days dont get any food to go down and im left hungry. It seems that every meal I have some problem. Mostly bad anymore. And in the middle of every meal I feel like im getting up and going to the bathroom. I have gotten quicker at getting the food out and no longer spend 3 hour over the toilet. I cant stand this any longer. I have been to many doctors and asked to take Prevacid and Prilosec, both which didnt even help but made my symptoms worse. Especially because I could even swallow them. I would like to know if anyone else has the same problem and found a solution.
Have you had any tests done? You are so young for such stuff. I am in my 60's and have acid reflux for about 15 years. I have used Zantac, they have a chewable tablet. This has helped me. Also spicey foods cause problems. I eat the most bland foods available, not very exciting but it is not worth it to me to eat something that will cause me pain later. Have you tried eating yogurt? I think this helps me sometime. Also, I read that apple cider vinegar helps, so I use a tablespoon with a spoonful of honey mixed in and drizzle it on lettuce. I believe this does help me. I really think you should get some tests done and give the yogurt a try. Good luck, keep me posted.
