I want to apologize for the long post...but I'm really worried. This is the deal: 28, african-american woman

In 2006 during my yearly exam, I got tested for all STD's including HIV. All were negative, except the ELISA screening was positive..it was sent for a Western Blot, it came back Negative. I got pregnant in July 2007. I took another HIV test (for prenatal care) and same think happened ELISA screening was positive, then WB came back Negative. My doctor said she has a few patients that this happens to..and not to worry. She said it may be something in my blood that triggers the ELISA to be positive. I gave birth in Feb 2008 and at my 6 week checkup (April 0Cool my doctor said my next exam should be April 09. (From 2005-June 2008, I was in a monogomus relationship -- unprotected sex )

In the past year I've had unprotected sex with an ex-boyfriend about 8 times. I began a new relationship in aug/08 the first time we had sex was 11/08 ( protected ). We discussed monogomy/STD's ( we never got tested together ). We started have unprotected sex around Mid Dec/08. I just has my yearly exam 05/05/09. The ELISA was positive..so when the nurse called to say they had to send it for the western blot, I was not surprise. I got another call this Monday saying the WB was INCONCLUSIVE??? She said my doctor is not worried considering my history. I am freaked out because the WB has never been INCONCLUSIVE.. the nurse said the switch labs since my last WB and some labs are more conservative than others, and want to retest before giving an answer??? I'm supposed to go back 6/5/09. My question is..What is my HIV risk? Also, would you know the chances/probabiliy of INCLUSIVE becoming positive. BTW -- I am still in the relationship that began in 08/09.

I know this was long --- PLEASE HELP!!!

inconclusive means just that...they couldn't tell if you are HIV positive or negative and need to test you again...get tested again and DO NOT have unprotected sex...that isn't smart. Its dangerous to you and to your partner..No matter how good it feels, does it feel so good that you would die for it? I hope you are negative and I hope you use condoms 100% of the time from now on.

WB/ELISA Test results
I'm surprised that your doctor didn't suggest you have a PCR test. The WB and ELISA test for antibodies. The PCR tests for HIV virus in the blood. Antibody tests can be inconclusive, but are much less costly than the PCR. If you are that worried about the test you had, then ask your doctor about a PCR test.

You should always use condoms by the way! Monogamy can be a fleeting thing.
