Hi everyone,

I'm a kidney transplant patient for about 7 months now. I am generally an ectomorph and my nephrologist is puzzled why I'm still not gaining any fat even though I'm on steroids.

In my whole 29 years, I've been physically thin. Now I aim to put on some weight and muscles by working out. I've done this before, before I was diagnosed having a kidney failure and it worked out for me even though just a little.

But the problem is I have a fistula in my left arm and I'm concerned that if I lift some weights, it might get damaged or something. Is there something I can do about this or any other alternatives? Thanks.

Hi and Welcome

Glad your transplant went well..Smile
Has your nephrologist made any recommendation for you to work one on one with trainer?

AS for gaining weight I know the feeling no matter what I do I can not gain weight either..I'm in stage 3 kidney failure.
I'll look around on the web and see if I come up with anything, in the meantime you can ask a doctor on here a question as well.

Hi ^Serenity^,

Yeah, I've been looking around the web too but can't find anything. As for asking my nephologist, I haven't really considered a trainer (I've been thinking of working out in home) so I have not yet asked her about this. Thanks for giving me the idea.

As for my transplant, right now I'm having a slight rejection but I think it's gonna be fine since my nephrologist says so and I really trust her.

Thanks ^Serenity^! And yes, it is really hard to gain weight... Smile

Take care of yourself..Smile

So far I haven't found much either, it's always best to consult with your doctor.
Keep us posted, I hope you don't reject the new kidney.
