Hi I have gallstones, I have pain in the middle of my chest bone area and at the back I would describe the pain as 5/10 mild. I am booked into have surgery but recently havent had much episodes of pain and I am wondering if I need the surgery. I have never had a severe attack. Does the pain always get worse, or will it stay mild. I also have autoimmune disease of the liver and of the thyroid.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

In case a ultrasound has been done and it has revealed multiple gall stones, or any block in the cystic duct ( of the gall bladder) or the common biliary duct, then the cause of the pain and your symptoms is definitely due to the gall stones.

In such a case, surgery may be the best option.

Yes, with time the attacks due to gall stones do increase in severity.

You may consult with your treating doctor for proper advice and explain the pros and cons of surgery. This will help you choose proper treatment options.
