Two nights in a row, I have woken up with stabbing pain in my right side (between m rib cage and my hip bone). it was so painful, I could not even take a deep breath. I have had a lot of nausea the past couple of days, and now today, I have started experiencing dull ache in the same area. I have no fever, vomiting. Just pain and nausea.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

The description of the pain appears probably to be due to renal stones.

Pain that originates due to renal issues (Stones, infection) is usually episodic , spasmodic or colicky in ‎nature, ‎‎‎‎‎originating ‎in the flank and radiating to the lower belly, inner thigh. It is ‎associated with other ‎‎‎‎symptoms like ‎nausea, vomiting ‎and systemic features due to any infection.

Though Renal stones cause severe disturbances of life due to the pain, they are not that serious to ‎affect the ‎‎alround health. But on the long term, presence of urinary obstruction due to stones in ‎strategic locations can end up ‎‎damaging the kidneys.

Proper diagnosis of your condition may need tests including a urinalysis, ultrasound or a CT scan of the abdomen.

You might consult with your doctor for proper examination and proper advice.
