Q: Withdrawal bleeding and hormonal contraception
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 9th, 2008
I have been using the nuvaring for around 2 years now and since the last month i've had the feeling that I could be pregnant. I kept using the ring as normal I took it out a week late, I had my period and put it back in when that week was over, a week later I took a pregnancy test and was negative, but I want to get pregnant so after I took the test I took the ring out and left out, but now like 3 days later I started bleeding like when I get my period and I just got my period 2 weeks ago. what is wrong ? if I were pregnant would all the medication i'm taking affect the baby ?

Current medical treatment: I am taking wobenym 3 tablets twice a day, ester c 1000mg twicw a day, acidophilus twice a day and I was taking naproxen 500mg twice a day but I finished my supply of naproxen 2 days ago.

You caused withdrawal bleeding by taking out the ring before your regular period should have come. You are probably not pregnant and you probably won't get pregnant as long as the normal function of the ovaries is not established. After discontinuing the hormonal contraception, a woman usually needs a few months to establish their normal reproductive functions.

Even if you were pregnant hormonal contraception wouldn't damage your baby.
